A SevenLakes Story! - The Grbics

May 19th, 2008 Brad

We moved to Katy five years ago and started church shopping. We had been attending a Catholic Church so we started there. After several months we just didn’t feel like we had found our church home. A dear friend of ours, Diane, told us about CrossPoint. I had heard her rave about the church and its contempory service and family feel. We attended one week and decided to give it a try.

About this same time, the church was having a father/daughter camp out. My husband, Vince, and our daughter Ashton, decided to attend. Needless to say they loved it. How many churches can you go to where you can paint the pastor’s fingernails and dye his hair all in one weekend. When they got back, I remember my husband saying to me, “I feel like this is home”. Our daughter enjoys going to church and I feel welcome here.

We decided to become members, and the rest is history. We have been involved in home teams, children’s ministry, sports ministry and vacation bible school. CrossPoint meets our needs in so many ways with its ministry, staff, and music. We love it here. It feels like home.

A SevenLakes Story! - The Bernet Family

May 5th, 2008 admin

After moving to Katy and visiting many different churches it was obvious to us that CrossPoint was the place God had in mind for us. We had moved many times before but this was the most challenging move yet. Everything was so BIG and COMPETITIVE. Coming from an eight year stay in Canada it seemed to us that Texas truly was “A Whole Nuther Country”. Everything was different and adjusting didn’t come easily for three teens and a second grader. At CrossPoint we felt immediately welcomed and truly cared for. The upbeat style of worship suited us and the messages always seemed to zero in and hit home. How do they do that every time? It is a blessing to be a part of a place where it really doesn’t matter who you are, who you were, what you wear, what you have, or how old or young you are. At CrossPoint we feel a true Christian attitude of acceptance and know through experience that when needed, there will be help, prayer, or an ear to listen.

May God’s blessings continually pour out upon the Bernet family and may His peace be forever found in the lives of each member!

A SevenLakes Story! - Brad, Maggie, Brycen, and Tate McDougle

April 28th, 2008 admin

Last April we decided to move from New Mexico to Katy. We left behind the comfort of knowing where we were and what we had, and moved to something completely new. We knew the move wouldn’t be easy, but with faith and determination we knew the decision was best for us as a family. It took several months, but once we were moved and settled we felt the need to find a church. We didn’t spend much time looking because we saw the “sign” literally, CrossPoint at SevenLakes. We wanted to find a church where our kids would learn the word of God and where we would grow in our relationship with God as a family. The moment we walked into SevenLakes, we were really surprised by the kindness of the people. We expected to walk in and take our seats, but it was one person introducing themselves after another, showing us around and giving us information about the church…amazing! We felt so welcomed. Now we attend CrossPoint regularly and enjoy helping out when needed. I help the setup team on Sunday mornings and Maggie helps out in childcare, we have also joined a home team. The home team has helped us to understand how important it is for us as parents to be accountable for teaching our children to know God and to know Jesus Christ. Thank you CrossPoint for welcoming me and my family.

A SevenLakes Story! The Niño Family

April 25th, 2008 admin

Starting a new church is a challenging experience, and being part of it is a huge blessing. That is how this family, the Niño Family, feels about serving and being part of Crosspoint Seven Lakes. We have been blessed; God brought us all the way from Colombia to Katy because He had a huge plan for our lives. The plan is now obvious, He wanted us to know Him, be saved, and share the Great news with others. And what a great place to do it: Crosspoint Seven Lakes where people love The Lord.

Knowing Jesus changed our lives, our priorities and our goals. That is why we are part of the setup team at Seven Lakes, because it is an enriching and growing experience that as a family allows us to serve our Lord and through Him serve our church, and our community. This is what Jesus wants us to do: serve others. By doing the setup we are teaching our children that life is about serving others, giving a little bit of your time, and love. With this simple thing we know we have impacted other families. Our children have learned to love others and to care for each other. They trust God because they know He has always been with us in our journey, guiding us. At school they are committed to show others that Jesus is real, He is the One that gives you Joy and Peace. Juliana (8 years old) says: “Going to Seven Lakes is really special because I’m with friends and with people that I love, and I love helping people and talking about God with them.”

A SevenLakes Story! - Tracy and Stacy Page

April 8th, 2008 admin

Serving on the various teams that we do weekly have really made our kids comfortable and excited about attending worship on Sundays. They don’t ask if we are going to church but what we are going to help with this week. They know we have responsibilities and enjoy sharing these with us. They have learned that service is part of worship.

Our daughter Nikole has had the opportunity to help with a neighborhood bible study for children and she stepped up and assisted the leader with reading from the bible and assisted with interpretations. I don’t think this would have occurred without being as excited and involved in church as our whole family is.

The church has given us a sense of belonging and sheer excitement about new comings and events for everyday life as a family. The growing and nurturing that brings a family together happens at CrossPoint SevenLakes!

A SevenLakes Story! - CrossPoint SL has changed our lives…by Sara Lizotte

April 8th, 2008 admin

When I was a young girl, I attended a church… once. The message that was sent to me through the hellfire and brimstone minister was that God was vengeful, and would strike all unholy persons down (which happened to be the entirety of humanity). Needless to say, I was driven away from God, the one I needed most. I spent years trying to fill a void, certain in my mindset that a mean, shaking his finger from afar kind of God was not what could fill me up.

Then, I hesitantly came to CrossPoint. Immediately I was taken in by a loving community and a merciful God who sought not to condemn me, but to save me. The environment I found at CrossPoint was very inviting and after only a few services, I knew I had found what I needed. My attendance here led me to not only accept God, but to love Him as well.

When CrossPoint @ Seven Lakes opened, my husband and I were driven to become a part of this new community. Since then, it has become a part of my family. With the help of this church, my husband and I have grown closer together and I have solidified my relationship with Jesus Christ through a Baptism. Joey and I were married at CrossPoint, and our relationship was sanctified before God. Now we have brought a wonderful child into the world, who was also saved through Baptism right here at CrossPoint! CrossPoint really saved me by helping to strengthen my relationship with Jesus, and as this church continues to grow, my faith grows with it.

Thank you Lord for the wonderful place you guided me to!

Amen!

A SevenLakes Story! - Mark Sleeper & Dara Simmons

April 8th, 2008 admin

Dara and I had been dating for some time and were realizing that we were heading down the path to marriage in the near future. Being that we had both been through divorces, we wanted to make sure we did everything right this time, and strove to resolve as many obstacles up front as possible. One main issue we both wanted to tackle immediately was religion. Dara was raised Catholic all of her life. I grew up in a Non-Denominational church as a child. During my previous marriage, we joined a Lutheran church and then transferred to a local Baptist church.Dara and I wanted to find a good local church representative of both of our beliefs and a great environment for the kids. After our first visit to CrossPoint Seven Lakes, we were pretty sure we had found just that. We really felt comfortable and found the sermons very relevant to our lives. After attending by ourselves for a few months, the next big step was to bring the four kids! After my divorce, I had continued to take my kids to the church that they attended with their mom, but every Sunday was a struggle. They never wanted to go and were always arguing not to attend. Dara continued to take her kids to a local church as well, but the kids were never excited about it and never really got anything out of it. We were ready to get them to try something new and bring them to CrossPoint, but were very worried about how they would like it. We were incredibly surprised - they loved it! Once we got them into their “JAMmin’ Hour” classes for the first time, they honestly can’t wait to go every Sunday. The older girls (7 years old) have especially enjoyed and gained from CrossPoint classes. They love the classes and really get the value of what they are being taught - and it really seems to stick. We love it when they talk about what they have learned and express their feelings - neither one of them used to do that in the past after church on Sundays. We really love the friendly, warm, family environment of CrossPoint Seven Lakes. Neither one of us had really been an integral part of a church family in the past. We really feel like that is changing now and look forward to growing our involvement in CrossPoint Seven Lakes and being an active part of the church as it continues to grow. We really enjoy Pastor Dan and are very thankful for he and the other members welcoming us and our kids into the church.

A SevenLakes Story! - The Hausman’s Story

April 8th, 2008 admin

From the first Sunday we worshipped at SevenLakes, we knew this church was something special. We had attended church most of our lives, but going to CrossPoint isn’t just “going to church.” It’s more like “being the church.” At CrossPoint we are encouraged to worship God and serve others, and it’s so easy to do that here. Our family learns and serves through set-up teams, Home Team, JAMmin’ Hour, Recon, and classes like Christ.ology and The Core. Due to the persistent prodding from our pastors, we’ve also started daily family devotions. It might seem that the Hausmans are really busy! The weird thing is, we really don’t feel all that busy. We both work in Alief schools and our kids have their own activities, and that’s what keeps us “busy”, but serving Christ at CrossPoint is what brings us to life. Serving Christ at CrossPoint is what makes us live.
The music here is so inspiring, and Matt, Bill, and now Dan’s (yeah!) teaching from the Word of God has motivated us to become active participants in the ministry of this church. The early believers in Christ saw church as a seven-day-a-week act of worship, not the one-hour-you-slip-into-your-Sunday-morning-routine as today’s society views it. Matt challenged us that first morning, January 7, 2007, that “if you want to launch forward to the next step with God, it all starts by taking a step back, looking at the cross and letting it make you go, ‘Wow!’” What an awesome Savior! What a great place to serve Him!

A SevenLakes Story! - “How CrossPoint Changed Us…” - The Schmidt Family

April 8th, 2008 admin

We moved into Cinco Ranch about 2 years ago. Troy and I had both been away from church for some time, but we knew we wanted to find a church to call our own.  Our first encounter with Crosspoint was a phone call inviting us to the first service.  We did not attend. Our second encounter was a mailer that came straight to our door, it was for the Easter service.  We came to that Easter service where we were greeted by Fred.  He made us feel very welcome.  Once we entered the building we met Pastor Dan who was equally inviting.  We got a lot out of that service and everyone was so nice.  We felt so comfortable at Crosspoint Seven Lakes and so we made the decision to call it “our church”.  Since that time we have become more involved.  We wanted to serve and doing so has changed us. Troy is a part of the crew who transforms Seven Lakes, The High School into Seven Lakes, The Church. I must admit that my husband is not a morning person, but he rises every Sunday morning to help with the transformation.  When he gets home he is filled with pleasure because he was a part of serving our community and our God.   I am now a part of the team of greeters and I also play Bunko with a group of fabulous women.  I love being a greeter because I get the opportunity to make someone feel just the way Fred made Troy and I feel on our first visit.  Playing Bunko with other women has given me a chance to meet new friends.  Being a part of a church and a community brings us great joy!  To be able to worship with my husband has given us a different kind of connection.  God is working in our lives just as he always has, BUT we are more aware of Him.

We are thankful for the great people we have met and the ways we have been able to get involved.  Thank you CrossPoint for allowing us to grow as Christians!

A SevenLakes Story! - Scott and Georgianna Stebbins

April 8th, 2008 admin

Georgianna and I came to Seven Lakes after we moved from Detroit, Michigan, to Fulshear, Texas. We had visited several churches in the local area but were not led to join any. Then one day Georgianna saw a trailer that had “Cross Point” on it so she came home and checked out the web site. She listened to a couple of sermons online and suggested that we visit the church. When we went the following Sunday we felt we just belonged right away. Everyone is so friendly and accepting. We really enjoy the contemporary music and the message is straight from the Bible. Participating on a set up team has given us a greater appreciation for all the extra effort that goes in to every Sunday morning. Seeing whole families come together to accomplish God’s work is such a blessing! We just started a Home Team and are looking forward to seeing how God will use us in this ministry. We are so thankful that we have been called by God’s purpose back to the south, closer to our family, and to this wonderful church.

Ephesians 3:20 (NLT)
“Now glory be to God! By his mighty power at work within us, he is able to accomplish infinitely more than we would ever dare to ask or hope.”
